WHITETAIL
MADNESS
DEER '05: What a great season! 2005 began to show
the rewards for all of our hard work with clearing land, planting
food plots, providing minerals, harvesting does, and instituting a
quality deer management program. Our quality deer management
program is simple – the next buck you shoot needs to be larger
than the last buck you shot. We never want to penalize
our young and new hunters by forcing them to pass on the best rack
they have ever seen. Our property is the home to such a large
number of whitetails that allowing a few smaller deer to be shot
will not upset our ratio of trophy animals. Besides, the thrill of
a 12 year old or a 30 year old first time hunter bagging that fork
horn buck is no less exciting than the veteran that gets his trophy
10 pointer. To get a better idea of just how good 2005’s deer season
was, be sure to visit our photo section.

Spring turkey hunts available for 2006! TURKEY: Another successful season on the turkey front. We had 5 turkey licenses to fill and those that put in a little effort were rewarded with nice gobblers. The two unfilled tags were because of a lack of time or effort. Time was a problem on one tag because it belonged to a college student with a full school and work schedule. Effort is the problem on the other tag. The author of this report apologizes for ruining the camp turkey percentages by not spending enough time in the woods.
Fall Bear Hunts Available for 2006! BEAR: We continue to be over run by bear. Our trail cameras have pictures of every size and shape you can think of. Small ones, large ones, moms with cubs (one with triplets), ones with beautiful coats, ones with white patches, ones with black noses, ones with brown noses, and ones with coats so beat up that you would think that all they do is fight. We only had one bear hunter in camp this year and he was successful…his first bear ever. In fact, the only unsuccessful bear hunter that we ever had, was unsuccessful by choice.
